The body of a female student from the Bandung Institute of Technology, who went missing after her boat flipped over while rafting on Sunday, was discovered in the river bed on Wednesday afternoon.

"Yes, the body of the ITB student has been found by joint forces of rescuers at 6pm," the chief of the Garut 0611 Military Command, Lt Col Edy Yusnandar, confirmed.

The body of Angelina Yovanka, 19, a student in the Marine Technology Department, was discovered in about nine meter deep waters near the scene of the accident in River Cikandang, Pakenjeng, Garut, West Java.

The remains were brought to the Garut regional hospital.

"Her body was intact. No injuries were found but it had swelled because it had been in the water for a long time. It is now evacuated to the hospital," he said.

He added that the rescue team would later hand the remains over to her family and the institution where she was studying.

Efforts to find her involved divers from the Marine Corp, the Search and Rescue Team, the police and the local military command, which sent its personnel to assist immediately after receiving information about the incident on Sunday.

Yovanka, a resident of Jakarta, went missing while rafting with five of her friends after her boat turned upside down. The other passengers were unharmed.

Officials said Yovanka`s body was lodged in among large stones in the river bed.
