The issue of artists selling out in commercials has dulled at this point, but it touches a nerve with artists like Morrissey, whose words resonate on a more meaningful level for fans. This song in particular is sacred teenage-longing territory. But the John Lewis ad is actually pretty effective, and it's not quite as egregious as some ads with songs that don't make sense -- it features a little boy, impatient for Christmas morning (but not for why you think!), and the words -- "please, please, please, let me, let me, let me, get what I want this time" -- quite literally, work. But when it comes to matters of the heart, there is no reason, and no amount of subliminal holiday messaging can change that. So, hey, Morrissey! Where is your heart? WATCH:

Morrissey has done the unthinkable for many of his fans -- the singer/songwriter lent the classic 1984 Smiths song, "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want,"
to UK department store John Lewis for a £6million holiday advertisement, the Telegraph reports. Fans, however, won't have to hear Morrissey's voice debased ad infinitum, as the advertisement doesn't feature the original Smiths song, but a cover by Slow Moving Millie (aka Amelia Warner, former spouse of Colin Farrell).
