Nature and architecture have always caught the eye of Emily Delettang.

As a youngster, Delettang can remember taking photos, first with an old Polaroid. Then, as her father saw something in those photos, he let her use a manual camera. And that was the start of a hobby that has turned into something a little more.

“I thought it was so cool to focus on different things,” she said, “and my grandfather used to have a darkroom, so I always loved photography.”

Now the subjects she enjoys most — architecture and nature — are on display and for sale in several area locales. Kelly’s Caf in Brunswick and Kroft’s Emporium in Olmsted Falls are exhibiting the framed photos.

Delettang was born in France. Her father is a native of France and her mother is American-born. The couple met in college and lived in France for several years. When Emily was 2, the family moved to the United States, eventually setting in Brunswick when she was 6. They traveled extensively as she was growing up — every other year to France, for instance — and photography was a big part of her travel plans.

“I’d always be saying I wanted to take pictures. I love old churches and they are the subject of many of the photos,” she said, pointing to one of a French cathedral on the wall at Kelly’s. She said she also loves the architecture of buildings in the Cleveland area and she and her dad used to drive downtown just to look at them and take pictures.

As she became more proficient at photography, her parents suggested she print and frame her favorites. They drew some attention and she has been able to sell them to help with her expenses. She displays them with her business card also reflecting her French heritage — Imagerie par Emily. The 8- by 10-inch framed photos are just $35 so they are affordable, too.

Delettang was active in high school, but not in the photography club because she was in band and that kept her very busy. She is a 2009 Brunswick High School graduate and is a third-year exercise science major at the University of Toledo with a concentration in biomechanics. She hopes her career will take her into the field of prosthetics.

Photography, though, she said will remain a passion — but a hobby. “I don’t want it to be a job — I like to too much.”

Anyone interested can stop at Kelly’s Cafe, 1661 Pearl Road or Kroft’s Emporium in the Grand Pacific Junction, 8153 Orchard Dr. Contact Delettang at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
