Police in Ambon, Maluku, said a bomb explosion in Sirimau, Ambon city, Saturday night was merely intended to scare people.

"The explosion of a self-made bomb beside the Nakamura Paradise therapy center was done by irresponsible person to scare people in the area," Maluku Regional Police Command spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner J Huwae said here on Monday.

He said the incident did not cause deaths but the bomb shrapnels created holes on the wall of the walls of the Nakamura therapy and Paradiso restaurant.

"The police have questioned Dimetrov Pattikawa (46) who as a witness. Pattikawa sells gasoline in the area near the scene of explosion," he said.

He said the police were still investigating if it was related with the September 11, 2011 incident or not.

"The explosion incident did not affect the activities of the people in Ambon city," he said.

Maluku deputy governor Said Assegaff meanwhile had appealed to the people in Ambon to guard their neighbourhoods.

"We will continue campaigning to build people`s awareness of the importance of solidarity. There we will safeguard stability in the reigon. People must not be emotional and think with a clear mind," he said.

He said when they had problems they had to discuss them and not to resort to anarchy because if they did they would be dealt with by security authorities.

"We must make the region safe as many people wish to visit Maluku. I asked the security authorities to take firm actions professionally to safeguard and protect the people," he said.
